I began quilting in 1997 after my fourth child had commenced school. Before quilting I had been a ballet teacher and a keen dressmaker and embroiderer.

 

After 6 years of following patterns and making traditional quilts I started designing my own quilts. Crazy Quilting proved to be the perfect vehicle for me to commence my original design work. Using this technique I was able to freely combine my love of colour and fabric with embroidery.

 

Much of my work is influenced by personal experience and I am frequently inspired by fabric that seems to excite the creative process.  I generally begin with a basic plan and work on one section at a time, problem solving along the way. The designs evolve as I complete each section which can become stressful at times especially when working towards a deadline.

 

I usually work on two projects at a time, one by hand and the other by machine. I must discipline myself to finish a project before beginning another because I find UFO's (unfinished objects) frustrating and distracting.  I have been fortunate enough to win awards with my designs in Australia and the USA.
