  Small Quilts

All About Me.
2005.
25.5ins x 36ins (65cm x 91cm)

In 2005 I completed a year long course called Art For the Stitch with the Victorian Embroiderers Guild. We were taught the principals of design and composition.

This quilt fulfilled one of the course requirements.  Machine pieced, raw edge, tulle and beads and found objects were used.

Ballet, reading, time and music are represented.
Outback Australia.
2006
45.5ins x 30ins. (116cm x 76cm)

I attended a 2 day workshop with Pricilla Bianchi at the Australasian Quilt Convention in 2006.

We had to bring some unique or ethnic fabrics and a design wall and were told to cut up the fabric up and make a quilt.

I was right out of my comfort zone but it became a very creative and freeing experience.
Autumn Leaves.
2007
17ins x 22ins.

This quilt was part of the Journal Quilt Project display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2007.

I was exploring the different ways of representing a Plane tree leaf.  Fused appliqué, painted, organza shadows, thread painted and machine quilted.
Hide and Seek.
2006
15ins x 14ins.

I combined two photos to make this small quilt. A photo of my son looking around a tree with a photo of our backyard.
I enlarged each photo, traced and combined them.
Machine appliqué, threadpainted and machine quilted.

I belong to The Waverley Art Quilters which is a small group within Waverley Patchworkers Inc. In 2008 we studied the ?Art Quilting Workbook? by Jane Davila and Elin Waterston. We all loved having the focus and direction of the book to follow. Below are some of my small quilts 9ins x 12ins.

We decided to each choose a motif and colour scheme. I chose a leaf.
All of these small art quilts are 9ins x 12ins.
